BRICS Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development will be opened on 26th April

The BRICS countries, as the leading developing countries of the world, share a strong desire and commitment towards closer cooperation to ensure collective sustainable development. To enhance collaboration between BRICS member states in science and technology for sustainable development, China is organizing a BRICS Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development in support of the 14th BRICS Summit on April 26-27, 2022.

The BRICS Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development is co-hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academy of Science of South Africa, Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Science Academy, and co-organized by the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals and the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The forum aims to share innovative achievements and useful experiences and gather international consensus on big data to support sustainable development. The forum will provide an opportunity for scientists, engineers, policy-makers and other stakeholders in BRICS countries as well as representatives of relevant international organizations to explore how to address common challenges to sustainable development through STI cooperation, especially based on big data.

The subject of the Forum is "Big Data for Sustainable Development". It will focus on five themes including Big Data in Support of Food Security and Poverty Alleviation, Digital Economy, Sustainable Urban Development, Climate Actions and Disaster Reduction, and Biodiversity Conservation. This forum is scheduled to be organized in a hybrid format with the main physical venue located in Beijing, China.
