Elibio Rech is Director of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Synthetic Biology. His current research activities include the development of complex genomes as a platform for editing and engineering, directed towards synthetic biology applications. In 2002, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil awarded him the honorific title of “Comendador” in the Order of Scientific Merit. In 2005, he was elected a Fellow of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. In 2007, he was elected a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences - for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS). In 2021, President of the Superior Labor Court awarded him the honorific title of “Comendador” in the Order of Scientific Merit.
